Background on Celebrate U:
Some years ago, a very dear friend was experiencing a difficult time in her life. Of course, life can get to where there appears to be a succession of events that require that we regroup and can, sometimes, even bring us to our knees. In the life of my friend, not only were things happening one after the other, but all of the events came to a crescendo of pain, grief and a myriad of emotions during one particular month.
My heartstrings were being pulled as I watched my friend courageously stand firm in her faith, while her world was being rocked, yet, I wasn’t sure how to help. I didn’t know what to say. We used one of the most powerful tools given to us, in that we prayed and prayed some more. I longed for a way to reach out to my friend in order to help in her healing and came up with a way to bring a smile to her face. As that month approached its’ one year mark, I knew of her anxiety, all of the pain and reminders that were on the way, and I came up with an idea that would, at least, bring a smile to her face and her day, if only for a moment. For that entire month, every day, I sent her a ‘Celebration’ – a reason and a reminder for her to celebrate who she is, where she is, how much she meant to those she loved, as well as those that loved her. I continued with the celebration for the following year of that same month. Some celebrations consisted of the expected, and others, those things that one would never consider, yet they all speak of the awesome power of God to create us, the uniqueness of each of us, the encouragement to embrace us – for us and the undeniable reason to CELEBRATE US!
As I looked back at every celebration, I began to realize how each woman and every woman needs to CELEBRATE who they are. We need not rely on someone to throw us a party, we can have our very own, based on the woman that has been created and who we are. For when we are able to celebrate who we are, then and only then are we truly able to celebrate one another.
